We're Back Home!
On the mind.
Traveling Week 4 of 4 - Vietnam & Back Home
I'm back in the States. With three kids, Kirstin and I just got off a 10-hour flight from South Korea. I also made it just in time to release this newsletter on Friday! As I’m writing this, we’re at the Seattle airport, preparing for our last short flight back home to Bend, Oregon.
I didn’t write much this week because I’ve been enjoying time with the family, unplugging, and living in the moment while we were in Ninh Van Bay.
We had an absolute blast as a family. We love the beach, ocean, nature, biking, working out, wellness, and healthy food, and Ninh Van Bay gave us all of that and more. Our experience was a 10/10, and we created many special memories!
Here are my personal high and low points from this past week:
High Point: As a family, we had a full day scheduled by the resort called "Reconnect With Family," and it was incredible! It was probably one of the best days we’ve had together in a while. Kirstin and I locked our phones in a box from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. We only had each other and 20 Polaroid shots to capture the day. The day started with early morning fishing, followed by what felt like a hundred other activities, including planting a tree, and ended with a movie on the beach. It was a jam-packed day we’ll never forget.
Low Point: South Korea. We had a 12-hour layover in Seoul after getting off a red-eye flight at 8:00 a.m. We had the whole day to spend in the city, but we were exhausted after a multi-week trip through India and Vietnam. We were just irritable, it was really hot, and I think I had higher expectations for Seoul. No regrets and half glass full, we got to see South Korea as a family. A part of the world I've never been to. We also got to see a really neat temple shrine.
It’s good to reflect on the highs and lows. We’re so glad to be back on our home soil, but we’re going to miss Ninh Van Bay and the people we met along the way. Very much!
Business.
I've been away from my normal work routine for a month, and I'm excited to get back to work. I thought it would be fun to share the top things I need to focus on once I'm back!
Top five things when I get back:
Rework my weekly routine: On long trips like this, more than two weeks, I tend to clear my entire calendar and rebuild it when I return. It’s a great time to reset and establish a new routine with time blocks for deep focus work, family time, weekly and monthly meetings, etc. I’ve been resetting my calendar for years after long trips, and I enjoy the change up.
Redpill: I’ve got some messages to catch up on, and I’m excited to jump back into our weekly stand-up to see what the team has been up to.
Interviews: We have two roles open — Project Manager and Director of Marketing — and I need to conduct interviews for both.
The Relentless Campaign: I’ve been out for a month and have zero progress on my sales targets. Time to get back on track!
Catch up with my team: I’m excited to meeting with my team to see how they’re doing.
I’m looking forward to knocking out some focused work next week!
