Why We Only Hire In-House

On the mind.

I’ve been on a few podcasts recently, and on one of them, we dove into why we only hire full-time employees here at White Rabbit Group.

One of the core tenets we founded White Rabbit Group on is that everyone we hire is full-time. There are pros and cons to hiring part-time, full-time, or outsourcing to a third-party company—each model has its place. One downside of full-time hiring is that you need to keep people busy, and when they’re on the bench, you still have to pay them. But for us, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Here’s why we only hire full-time employees:

Culture
We’re not just building software, we’re building our reputation. We set our culture intentionally and hire based on the traits we expect our team to embody. One of my biggest goals has always been to build a team of like-minded people who genuinely enjoy working with each other. We spend a lot of time at work, you should enjoy the people you're working and talking with almost every day!

Cost
No middle person taking a cut. We hire people directly and pay direct salaries. This can be the most cost-effective way to build a team. We're a white label service company, which means our customers typically upsell our services, so keeping costs down is a key part of the business model.

Quality of Work
We (as a team) control the quality of every line of code, every design decision, and every customer experience. No surprises like you often get with outsourced teams. We also manage the entire hiring and training process internally, so we know our team can execute.

More Scalable
We’ve built internal systems, from onboarding to delivery, so we know what to expect. In-house hires typically improve over time and grow with the company. The predictability you get with an in-house team is just easier to scale.

Reliability and Accountability
Our clients (creative agencies, studios, and companies) trust us to output quality work, get the job done on time, and be there for them in a tight pinch. In-house teams take more ownership of their work and relationships, which in turn helps build longer-lasting relationships with our customers. From my experience, accountability is tenfold with people in-house!

So that’s why this model makes sense for us. We strive to be a reliable, high-quality, all-in team that comes in every day and enjoys what they do.
