On the mind.

This week, we hosted an in-person leadership meetup here in Bend, Oregon. Our team is global, so we couldn’t invite the entire leadership team but I was joined by Abhilash (co-founder), Adam (Director of Partnerships), and Jerry (Director of Marketing).

Getting together in person has so many benefits. We had multiple meetings — all of them productive and useful.

But…

The most important part of our meetup wasn’t the meetings, the business discussions, or even hashing out the vision. For me, it was simply the time we spent together. Working alongside each other, having early morning walks for coffee, eating dinners (breaking bread) together, and just talking about life. Those were the most important moments.

Whether it’s a small leadership gathering or our entire team, like our 2022 company retreat to Bali, the biggest reason for these meetups is always the same: spending time and experiencing life as a group. There’s no hidden agenda or other motive beyond that.

True, authentic relationships matter to me. I want to continue and always build with people who are good humans and genuinely care about what we’re creating together. I’d rather build a $100 million company with people I enjoy working with than a $1 billion company with people I can’t stand.

So, to everyone I work with: thank you for making each and every day a pleasure to work with you!
