The Weekly No. 22

A Week of Anticipation

On the mind.

This week, we’re moving into our new home. We bought our lot three years, two months, and 27 days ago—exactly 1,184 days.

Honestly, building a custom home has been a much more intense rollercoaster ride than we anticipated. Extended timeline, way over budget, and literally hundreds of decisions. I feel like once we move in, all the anticipation and stress related to the build will just melt away. We’re beyond excited and incredibly grateful to make this dream home a reality.

It all started with a vision, and now it’s truly coming together.

Even the build time was part of the plan and that plan was to live somewhere else as a family and live another lifestyle. The days between when we bought the lot and today have been filled with fun and change. We’re now a family of five. We’ve lived in four homes, traveled to five different countries, and moved to Hawaii for nearly two years. We embraced the aloha life before moving back to the West Coast this year for the final stretch of building our custom home in Bend, Oregon.

Our time living on Kauai was truly special. It was a happy chapter for our family. Our youngest, Lillian (we call her Lily), was born there, and living with aloha softened our hearts as a family. The build time gave us the freedom to live wherever we wanted, and we’d always dreamed of seeing if Hawaii could be a home for us. I mean, it’s always been something I’ve felt, we even gave our second son, Kai (meaning the sea or ocean), a Hawaiian name in 2020 before we moved.

Now we get to live in another special place. For us, Bend offers so much of what we want in a community and the lifestyle to raise our kids: good schools, a very active and healthy community, relaxed lifestyle, endless outdoor activities, distinct seasons, strong sense of community, family friendly, and our group of really close friends from college all live here.

This could easily turn into a much longer writeup on the past three years and why we chose Bend, but for now, I’m just capturing a quick moment on my mind this Thursday night.

As I write this, we have yet to move into the new home, so I’ll follow up once we’re settled. Here are a few pics of that nearly 1,184 days ago.

Weekly moments.

My girls. We got some professional photos back from Eli and Becca’s wedding and I had to share a few.

Got in a few laps up at Bachelor this week! So much snow already for mid/early November.

Kai and Max.

Much respect to all the vets in my family and all who served!
