The Weekly No. 13

Small Changes to the Newsletter

On the mind.

Welcome to The Weekly No. 13, on Friday the 13th. What a coincidence, or it could even be fate? šŸ˜‰ I remember growing up thinking something bad could happen on Friday the 13th and that I should play it extra safe on this day. I asked ChatGPT why Friday the 13th is a belief we have here in the United States and where it originated. It split out the following:

Friday the 13th has long been considered an unlucky day in the United States, with its origins tied to a mix of historical, religious, and cultural influences. The belief is often traced back to Christian tradition, where the Last Supper had 13 guests, with Jesus being crucified the following day, Friday. This connection between the number 13 and a Friday ingrained the superstition into Western culture. Over time, this belief was amplified through folklore, literature, and media, eventually becoming a widespread superstition in the U.S., where many associate Friday the 13th with bad luck, accidents, and misfortune.

So thereā€™s your fun fact for the day!

This is my 13th newsletter, which means Iā€™ve been writing for nearly three months. Itā€™s been enjoyable to jot down my thoughts, where previously I would have only shared them with a close group. What Iā€™ve learned is that this is a fun medium for me to share how I think and whatā€™s going on in my life, with a broader audience. I hope youā€™ve enjoyed these weekly newsletters and will keep following along.

That being said, itā€™s time for a change. While Iā€™ve enjoyed writing these, Iā€™ve had two small conflicts in my head each week.

The first conflict is that my life isnā€™t easily split between ā€œWhatā€™s on My Mindā€ and ā€œBusiness.ā€ Business is part of my life, but my life is made up of many thingsā€”family, personal matters, friends, the outdoors, etc. Each week, I basically struggled with where to place content: should it go under "On my mind" or "Business"? Sometimes, whatā€™s on my mind is business. So, Iā€™m simplifying the newsletter by merging these sections into one block of content: On my mind.

The second conflict is that I found it difficult to pick just one picture each week. I donā€™t want to share a ton of photos and I want them to be special, but I didnā€™t like being locked into just one. Anyone close to me knows I take a lot of picturesā€”documenting life is important to me. So, Iā€™m changing this section to Weekly moments. Sometimes Iā€™ll share one picture, and other times I may share more.

It was a great framework to start with, but moving forward, this will be the new format for my newsletter. Hereā€™s the new structure:

  1. On My Mind

  2. Weekly Moments

Simple. Stay tuned for more next week!

Weekly moments.

My very first braiding of Lilyā€™s hair. BIG moment for me as a girl dad!

Siding is going up. Weā€™re supposed to move into the house in 5-weeks? Any bets that will get delayed or does it look on track? So far itā€™s been 3 years and 1 month since we purchased the lot.

A week of smoke here in Bend.
