Make Yourself Irreplaceable
On the mind.
Life’s short. Put in your 100% every day.
Not every day, week, or month will be perfect, so don’t chase that. Just remember to stay humble and appreciate how truly special life is. Don’t waste it, or your energy.
Business.
I wrote the following message this week as we had someone leave recently. Sometimes, it personally hurts when people leave or are let go from our company, while other times, it can be a huge relief. I've had so much stress over the years from people leaving or getting fired that I've learned, in my own words, to "lock my heart up in a box and set it aside" when it comes to making business decisions related to this subject. Fortunately for my “heart”, this recent departure was a relief. The message…
To everyone employed by a company:
One of your primary goals as an employee should be to make yourself irreplaceable. Whether you plan to stay with a company long-term or eventually move on, your focus should be on contributing in such a way that your absence would be deeply felt by your team, your peers, and the entire organization.
This means going beyond the basic responsibilities of your job. Take initiative, develop unique skills, and build real relationships that set you apart. Be the person who consistently adds value, solves problems, and lifts others up. In doing so, you’re not just performing tasks — you’re becoming a core part of the company's success.
Strive to be the kind of employee whose departure would leave a noticeable gap. This isn’t about job security through fear, but rather about making such a positive and lasting impact that your work is not only appreciated but difficult to replace. Be the person people think about for years.
Never settle for being the person a company is relieved to see go.
Instead, aim to be the one whose absence prompts questions like, "How will we move forward without them?" This mindset elevates you, making you a force for success in any team you're part of.
One pic.
