My Desk Setup
On the mind.
I've been working with and staring at a computer for over 15 years. Many late nights, many long days, and many different types of workstation setups. In the office and at home. Fixed desks, standing desks, multiple screens, a single screen, Apple mice, non-Apple mice, mics of all sizes, cameras, speakers... the list goes on.
I thought it would be fun this week to share my current workstation and all the items that keep me productive in the digital world.
It all starts with my 14” MacBook Pro. I’ve been using a Mac almost since I started coding years ago, and I have never looked back. My current MacBook Pro is the best to date, with no issues so far (knock on wood).
My current screen setup is a single ultra wide screen, which I have found to be significantly better than my previous split-screen setup. It feels like a split screen where you can have multiple windows open, but it gives me a single screen to focus all my energy on. I’ve found that simplicity in my setup is key, and having one screen really helps. My LG 40” ultra wide screen also acts as my hub for connecting all my devices. Everything plugs into the back of my LG monitor, and I use a single hardwired USB-C cable from my monitor to my MacBook Pro. Simple.
Next up, my mic and video setup quality is really important to me. I use an external mic for crisp sound and my old DSLR for top notch video. Quality is key for professional-looking and sounding video calls on Zoom, Slack, or Google Meet. I've also added an LED light for late-night calls in low light.
Headphones. I keep it very simple, using just the wired Apple headphones. I’ve tried them all, from expensive over-ear headphones to Bluetooth and wireless options. But back to simplicity: wired headphones always work, no connection issues, no dead batteries, and if I lose them, it’s only 20 bucks.
Then, I control it all with a wireless Apple keyboard, Magic Mouse, and trackpad. I use the keyboard and mouse for the main controls (of course) and the trackpad for precision and zooming in and out of screen designs.
So, here’s my full list setup!
Computer. 2021 14” Macbook Pro, M1 Max, 64GB memory, 8TB HD.
Screen. LG 40" Curved UltraWide 5K2K.
Video. Canon 6d Mark ii and Canon 24-70mm 2.8 L lens. Connected with Casable Pro Webcam.
Mic. Razer Seiren Mini.
Light. Key Light.
Desk. UPLIFT Standing Desk V2, 60 x 30”.
Controls. Apple wireless trackpad, keyboard, and magic mouse.
Headphones. Apple wired headphones.
Computer dock. Oakywood black wood laptop dock.
Phone dock. Oakywood black wood MagSafe iPhone Stand.
Desk pad. Grovemade leather pad.
External speaker. Sonos One SL. When I want to crank it up, I have this speaker ready to go. I’m in my headphones most of the time though.
Hope you enjoyed this! Obviously, we all do different types of work, so you need to tailor it to your setup.

You can see Kai’s little head in the cabin as they’re finalizing grade on our home build! Probably his last chance to ride in the excavator.
